Last week, MasterCard International launched the MasterCard Monthly Bonus Sweepstakes, a debit promotion that offers cardholders the
chance to win a $1,000 monthly bonus over the course of 10 years. From April 1, 2006 through May 31, 2006, consumers will receive one entry for every
signature-based purchase they make with their MasterCard debit cards.

The promotion is targeted specifically toward women, who
account for 61% of the heaviest debit card users, according to a
MasterCard survey conducted by
Millward Brown. Moreover,
approximately 75% of women hold
the primary responsibility for
managing household financial
activities, including bill
payments. Debit cards offer
these decision makers the
benefits of security and
convenience, allowing them to
carry less cash, avoid fumbling
for change, easily track their
spending, make bill payments
online and, ultimately, save
time.
In a MasterCard survey conducted
by Guideline Research, 43% of
respondents said they would use
a $1,000 monthly bonus to reward
themselves or their families,
either in the form of family
vacations, nights on the town,
shopping sprees or trips to the
spa. The remaining survey
participants said they would use
the money to pay bills.
MasterCard is promoting the
sweepstakes with radio and print
ads, as well as online content.
The company will also provide
direct marketing support to
banks and other financial
institutions.
